A2 SELT – GESE Grade 3    £300

You must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A2 in Speaking and Listening for:

  • Further Leave to Remain (visa extension), required two and a half years after passing an A1 test.

GESE Grade 3 exam = CEFR A2.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires non-EEA nationals to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at level A2 after 2.5 years in the UK, in order to qualify for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.

By passing the A2 exam it means the you have reached A2.1 in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)

What is in the exam?

The exam consists of one assessed phase up to 7 minutes long

Candidate performance

In addition to the requirements in the previous level, you should:

  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding by responding to requests and simple

  • questions. 

  • Be able to communicate a certain amount of information relating to basic everyday circumstances.

  • Be able to communicate what you do on a day to day basis by asking asking and responding to simple questions.


Results and certificates

After the test you will receive a report with you provisional result - Pass or Fail

You should expect to receive your Certificate through the post within 7 days.
